“God accepts you whether you sin or obey because you have a 100% righteous identity in Christ!” I shared this with the church audience where I was teaching. Immediately, someone raised their hand and asked, “Are you saying then, that a Christian cannot lose their salvation?” That is the perfect, logical question.
There are countless Christians who live in fear that God has permanently rejected them because of habitual sins. Others check in with their feelings to evaluate if they “feel” saved. There are those who do not believe they said the correct prayer to be saved. All of these have one thing in common. They are basing God’s salvation on the faulty notion that they have done something wrong instead of faith in what Jesus Christ has done right. Often the root of the problem is they have never been taught the truth of God’s love for them as spelled out in the New Covenant of grace. A prayer in Ephesians 3:14-19 tells us that God desires us to be “rooted and grounded” in His love for us.
God has great news for any of you who are fearful that you have lost or can lose your salvation. It is impossible! To lose your salvation would mean that Jesus Christ is no longer in you, and you are no longer in Him. As a result, you would be unseated in the heavenly places (Ephesians 2:6), unresurrected spiritually (Ephesians 2:6), uncrucified with Christ (Romans 6:6), unforgiven ((Ephesians 1:7), unadopted such that you go back to being a child of Satan (John 1:12, 8:44), unidentified as righteous such that you go back to being a sinner (Romans 5:19), become spiritually dead again (Ephesians 2:1), and placed back in Adam (1 Corinthians 15:22)!!!
All those Scriptures shout loudly that the Father’s work in Jesus Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection was perfect and permanent for you. I urge you to look them up.
If you or someone you know is doubting their salvation today, it is most likely a result of Satan putting those fearful thoughts in their minds. It is not from God. Rest in the fact that by God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ, you are secure forever in Him and will never be taken out of Him and He will never leave you!
