When you start living by grace, some say, “You need to balance grace with law. Don’t forget about obedience to God and avoiding sin. They may be well-intentioned, but that way of thinking can be dangerous. Grace is all we need, and here’s why.
Grace Wins: Righteous Is The New You
As a new creation in Christ, by God’s grace through your faith in Jesus, you have already become the righteousness of God! “God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” 2 Corinthians 5:21. This is who you are now. It’s your identity apart from what you do. It can sound too good to be true when you don’t feel this way or sin. But it is true!
Grace Wins: No Sin Penalty, No Law Bonus
Your sins can’t diminish your righteousness, and law-keeping can’t increase it. “Where sin increased, grace increased all the more, so that, just as sin reigned in death, so also grace might reign through righteousness.” Romans 5:20b – 5:21a. Do you want to grow in grace? Think about how righteous you are in Christ over and over. The more you do this, the more you’ll grow.
Grace Wins: Transformation is Yours
We are not only saved by grace, but empowered to live freer than we ever knew possible! “For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all people, instructing us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live sensibly, righteously, and in a godly manner in the present age.” Titus 2:11-12. Grace saves us from separation from God, assures us we are eternally forgiven, heals our brokenness, restores ruptured relationships, frees us from sinful bondages, and empowers us to live lives pleasing to God.
