When we do not feel safe this increases our anxiety. This is definitely in the top five of why people seek us for counseling. Not only those who have been or are being abused, have the need to feel safe. Stop and think about your present life. Is there any area of your life where you do not feel safe such as your finances, relationships, health, employment, identity, life purpose, and preparation for death?
I want to camp in the most important territory where we need to feel safe. It is our relationship with God. Is there ever a time when you do not feel safe with Him? What reasons would cause this? It is typically because we do not believe we measure up to what God expects. As a result, we fear His opinion will result in punishment. The good news is that there is a permanent remedy for this. Jesus Christ has perfectly measured up and your union with Him means you perfectly measure up, too! Examine this based on these marvelous Scriptures about what is true about you.
“But now he has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation” (Colossians 1:22). Our Father always sees each of us as having no spiritual blemish in Christ so even Satan cannot accuse us before God.
“For by one offering He has perfected for all time those who are sanctified” (Hebrews 10:14). Our Father always sees each of us as forever perfect in Christ. This is not about perfect behavior but who we are in Christ. We are perfect because we are 100% righteous in Christ forever.
“In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace that he lavished on us” (Ephesians 1:7-8a). Our Father always sees each of us as a treasure He bought with the blood of Jesus and in Christ are forever forgiven.
“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor principalities, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:38-39). God will never stop loving us for all eternity because, in Christ, we measure up. No wall can ever come between us and our Heavenly Father’s love and He will never punish us.
We are safe in God’s loving embrace!
