God-Given Talents When you showed up on planet Earth, God wired you with innate abilities. These included mental aptitudes, natural interests, and physical capabilities. Each of us is given varying mental aptitudes. I was personally a little above average as a student, with some slight ADHD. Yet, God enabled me to earn a Master’s degree. We are all infused with natural interests from God so that we find ourselves drawn to them throughout our lives. There is a long list of these, but here are a few: technology, art, sports, accounting, machinery, physical labor, and science. We need all kinds of these. Referring back to last week’s blog, we are blessed with certain physical capabilities. My wife can build wood projects, like the very sturdy, tall work table she made for one of my birthdays. (I’m 6 feet 5 inches.) I can’t do anything like it. Whatever God gave you, it is perfect for what He wants to accomplish through you. We are also given spiritual gifts once we believe in Jesus Christ as our Savior. Ephesians 4:7-8 highlights this. “But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ’s gift. Therefore it says, “When He ascended on high, He led captive the captives, And He gave gifts to people.'” God-Given Spiritual Gifts These gifts are unique ways the Holy Spirit expresses Christ through you to bless other people. It appears that some gifts are permanent. A few of those are teaching, service, leadership, and pastoring. Other gifts may or may not come and go depending on specific situations, such as words of wisdom, words of knowledge, helps, faith, discernment, and healing. God-Given Passions Finally, God put specific passions in us that are very deep within us. These often start small but increase over time. When this trio of talents, gifts, and passions is working together, along with our personality and body, they harmonize together to bring heaven to earth through our lives. This means Christ expresses Himself through each of us, loving people in incredibly unique ways within our sphere of influence. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” Ephesians 2:10 |
