If you weighed 2000 pounds before you believed in Jesus as your Savior, what size clothes would you wear? You would wear clothes that fit your 2000 pound body, wouldn’t you? But what if the day you believed in Him, you instantly went down to your present weight? In that case, you would need brand new clothes that fit the new you, right?
What would happen if you put on your old 2000-pound clothes? You would trip and fall every few steps. They no longer fit you like they used to. However, if you don’t believe your physique has been transformed, you will keep trying to wear those old clothes.
The moment you believed in Jesus, God’s GLP-1 instantaneously transformed you so drastically that you are a new person needing new clothes. That’s what we read in Ephesians 4:22-24.
You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.
Did you notice the phrase“put on”? When this was written, the clothes a person put on in the Roman Empire signified their identity and status in society. A slave wore a simple tunic. A typical citizen wore a toga. A pagan priest wore ceremonial attire. Royalty wore gold-threaded purple linen and silk, highlighted with gemstones.
As one of God’s children, we are told to make a conscious choice each day to put on our identity. It would sound something like this.
Father, as I go out into the world today, I put on who You say I am in Christ. I put on righteousness. I put on holiness. I put on my patience. I put on wisdom. I put on strength. I put on humility. I put on belovedness.
Put on your new identity wardrobe each morning this week and see what a difference it makes!
