Everyone is born with a God-given need for acceptance. Yet, we live in a world full of very hurtful messages of rejection.
Here are some examples of rejection. Yet, there are many more. Criticism. Being yelled at. Being cursed at. Having gossip spoken about you. Being fired. Divorce. Betrayal. Bullying. Being abandoned. Being shamed. Dating difficulties.
How about you? Have you ever felt rejected? If so, how do you cope with it? Here are seven ways people deal with it.
- Withdrawing from people to stop the hurt.
- Crawling into a dark corner, feeling depressed and defeated.
- Verbally fighting back with anger to prove the other person is wrong about you.
- Developing a wall of indifference so you will not feel people’s rejection.
- Using addiction to numb the pain of rejection.
- Performing for certain people’s acceptance.
- Performing for God’s acceptance through legalism.
In Christ, God has removed everything about us that was unacceptable to Him. He then replaced that with everything about us that is acceptable to Him. Yet, this begs two questions. First, how do we experience God’s acceptance? Second, what do we do about people’s rejection of us? At Grace Life International Counseling Center, we can help you answer both of these through our effective Christian counseling.
