We, who are in Christ, can get caught in the trap of thinking God loves us more when we obey him and less when we sin. The good news is that he loves us AND accepts us either way. How do we know that?
First, we’re forgiven BEFORE we ever sin according to Ephesians 1:7 “In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace.” That’s amazing grace!
Second, we’ve ALREADY been made righteous with God’s own righteousness in our new identity which makes us outrageously loved and accepted. 2 Corinthians 5:21 “God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” I don’t know about you, but that doesn’t make me want to abuse God’s grace and go sin up a storm. It makes me very grateful, such that I love him more and want to obey him.
