Who is someone that you really admire who is a superstar at sports, hobbies, jobs, dating, or marriage? Now pick one of those categories that you wish you were better at. Finally, choose a superstar whom you wish would help you improve in that category? Got it? Ok, here we go.
Let’s say that person walked up to you and said, “I hear you want to improve in the area I excel in. Is that right?” You answer sheepishly, “Yes.” Then you get the shock of your life when he/she says, “Great. I want you to know more than anything, it is not all up to you. That is why I have a proposal for you. I have devised a way to step into a person’s body so that I can live through that person with my abilities, power, wisdom, and experience. Yet, there are two conditions. First, you have to be willing to let me come live inside you. Second, for the remainder of your life, you need to be willing to learn to depend on me to do, through you, what you cannot do yourself. Are you willing?” You think about it briefly and then agree.
Once in you, the tendency is to do what you have always done, rely on yourself. But, there is a gentle voice inside that reminds you, “Depend on me to do this through you.” Slowly, over the days, months, and years, you continue to learn to depend on this person, yet sometimes you still forget.
The greatest human “superstar” is Jesus Christ! He comes to dwell in every person who believes in Him. Once in us, He wants us to know that it is not all up to us to live our lives. In fact, His desire is to live through us as we depend on Him. He wants to live through our personality, body, skills, training, etc., so we can bless the people in our lives and beyond.
Think of it this way. Jesus Christ did not live from his deity while on the earth as a human. He lived fully human, dependent on His Father in Him. So, wouldn’t it make sense to depend on Christ in us, who knows how to live fully human?
Why don’t you ask Jesus to live through you for the next seven days?
